| Occasionally, a producer may need a specific, hard-to-find piece of weather or storm footage not appearing in our archives. For this very specialized need, we offer our premiere Special Footage Assignment service as a solution.
When you place a Special Footage Assignment order with StormScenes, we will add your specific footage request to our assignment board and distribute it to our cameramen in the field. If and when the opportunity and weather conditions arise, we will make your Special Footage Assignment a priority and attempt to capture the specific shots you requested.
A StormScenes Special Footage Assignment is a cost-effective alternative to sending your on-staff or freelance camera crews out on expensive and difficult expeditions to gather hard-to-capture storm and weather footage. Our cameramen are already frequently shooting severe weather events, and consequently will have many more opportunities to capture the specific scenes that you need.
The following are just a few examples of the types of footage requests that we accept:
- Lightning or storm clouds over specific landmarks, structures, landscapes, products or objects
- Wind, rain, snow or other weather phenomena affecting specific objects, landscapes, products or people
- On-location coverage of weather events
Special Footage Assignment Rates
Our fee for registering a StormScenes Special Footage Assignment is only $300. This one-time assignment fee is non-refundable and does not include any guarantee of delivered footage, as the capturing of special footage is entirely dependent on weather conditions. Our fee includes forwarding your assignment to our cameramen, who will make attempts to capture the scenes you need when they have the opportunity during their day-to-day operations. If we are successful in capturing your requested footage, the $300 assignment fee will be credited toward your final license fee at our normal stock footage rates (listed below). There are no time limits or deadlines attached to a Special Footage Assignment - we will keep your request on file and keep making attempts for as long as you need.
Travel Assignments
If your footage request requires travel outside of our normal coverage areas (outside of a 20-mile radius of Charleston, West Virginia) we offer the following travel rates (in addition to the base assignment fee). Travel rates include sending one of our cameramen on a special expedition to attempt to capture your footage request.
Travel rates are listed below. (The final rate includes the base travel fee plus mileage and lodging).
| Base travel fee | $350/day |
| Mileage fee | $0.60/mile |
| Lodging fee* | $150/night* |
| Incidental expenses (parking, tolls, etc) | Invoiced at cost |
|
*Normal lodging rate excludes major cities. Lodging rate for major cities will vary.
StormScenes Per-Second Footage License Rates
Video successfully captured during a Special Footage Assignment is classified and licensed at our normal stock footage rates.
Available formats
Currently, our cameras shoot in the NTSC 720x480 MiniDV format or HDV 1080i high-definition format. Footage can be delivered on MiniDV tape or digitally via hard drive or MPEG2 over internet FTP.
